Later Spring data report
Who actually treats menopause?
If you assume menopause care means seeing a gynaecologist, the directory data says otherwise for roughly two listings in five.
Analysis of the Later Spring directory (6,401 listed practitioners). Data as of .
How many listed practitioners are physicians?
3,638 of 5,988 listed practitioners who state a profession are physicians — 61%. The remaining 39% (2,350 practitioners) are nurse practitioners, physician assistants, midwives, naturopathic doctors, pharmacists, mental health professionals and others.
That matters practically: in much of the US, a nurse practitioner can assess symptoms and prescribe, and waiting lists are often shorter. Filtering a directory to physicians only can remove more than a third of the available options.

Does profession predict quality?
No, and this data cannot answer that question. Profession describes scope of practice and prescribing authority, not skill or fit. A useful filter is the combination of profession, a recognised menopause credential and declared areas of expertise, which is why the search page lets you apply all three at once.
Method and limits
Every figure on this page is counted directly from the Later Spring directory, which is compiled from two public professional registers. It measures listed practitioners, not all practitioners: clinicians who treat (peri)menopause without joining either register are not counted, so these numbers are a floor, not a census. Fields such as areas of expertise and telehealth availability are self-declared.
