Perimenopause is the transition that begins with cycle changes and their symptoms and runs until a year after the final period — that is the Menopause Society's definition. You do not need to have stopped menstruating to see someone: cycle change plus symptoms is precisely what these clinicians assess, and being told “too young, you still have periods” is the most common reason care gets delayed.

The Menopause Society Certified Practitioner credential covers care “from perimenopause and beyond” — it is one certification for the whole transition, held by physicians, nurse practitioners, midwives and other licensed clinicians alike.
